Snow Patrol.
Unlike most of the acts i rant about, i have nothing against Snow Patrol personally. Their
much lauded 'breakthrough' with the 'Final Straw' album has been hailed by many critics as being
a coming of age.
I won't dwell on 'Run'. Lets move on and see what else is coming up. 'Chocolate' was the second
single to be released from the album. Unlike the first song which was in the style of Coldplay,
this one blatantly rips off 'Pounding' by the Doves. The two are almost identical, save for the
lyrics
So, lets see what is next up on Rip-a-Song's LP; 'Spitting Games' was the third single from it.
Once again there are heavy similarities to another song, this time the Wannadies 'You and Me Song'.
Just before the chorus, try singing along 'You and me...always...and forever'. It fits perfectly.
I think what annoys me so much is that the plagiarism here is so obvious, but nobody seems to
be acknowledging it. The album has even been shortlisted for the 2004 Mercury Music Prize.
Everybody criticised Oasis for 'sounding like the Beatles', which in fairness they did, but
at least they were consistent!
I hope that Snow Patrol can write some of their own songs for their next LP.
So what irritates me about Snow Patrol then? Well, lets start
with the first single to be lifted from it, 'Run'. This song sounds like a Coldplay B-side.
The chorus with all its lighting up and strained vocal tones is so painfully similar to one
of the Martin clan's songs, it is painful.
