The 411

Two singles is a long time in the music industry.

In all the limp interviews before their debut 'On My Knees', the 411 were saying that their name was 'the number you call in the States when you want information. In the interests of science, i would like to travel to the states, simply to dial 411 and ask about ways to get rid of manufactured R&B girlband dross.

Their first single was a blatant rip of German late 90s girl group 'Tic Tac Toe', who found some credibility with a couple of songs which departed from their inital girl-power influenced comedy pop. It wasn't particularly offensive, just boring and demonstrative of how little work a band of supposedly pretty faces and barely covered bodies had to do to get a top ten hit. The vocals were very sparse, especially as there were supposed to be four of them.

I had assumed they were also trying to be broken in the USA, hence the name. However, having heard the second single, i'm now confused. It is identikit UK chart aimed R&B which the writing team couldn't even be bothered to write a chorus for. I'm dumb diggi diggi da dum ba dum bum... Somebody get my pills...

Assuming that we could plot the anglicisation of the 411 on a graph, by my reckoning their next single should be a cover of Billie Piper's "Because We Want To". Now that was a truly awful record...
